Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium

Among the other places to visit, the Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium is a must see. Visiting any of the shows here gives you a good view as well as factual knowledge on astronomy. Easily accessible from any corner of the city, the planetarium hosts daily shows of astronomy. It is a fascinating experience for the children.

Bull temple : The Bull Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva's Vahana (vehicle), Nandi the bull. Here you can find a huge monolithic statue of the sitting bull that draws a large number of people to this place every day. The statue is 4.5 meters tall and 6 meters long and has been at this place long before the present temple was built.
Aquarium:
The sight of the Aquarium, which is the second largest in the country, is quite fascinating. Built in a well-planned manner, the Aquarium has a good collection of a variety of aquatic life. The Aquarium remains closed on Mondays.

Begur: It is one of the oldest Shrines in Karnataka. It is more than 1100 years old. It is 13 km from Bangalore. In olden days it was called as "Nimbapuri" and "Bhaskarkshetra". A five feet long headless Jain statue of Sharanappa found in the village indicates that it was a Jain piligrim Centre too.

Shivaganga: It is prominent pilgrimage center in Bangalore Rural district and about 60 Kms from Bangalore. It is a conical shaped hill and has a Shiva temple of Ganga times originally by the Hoysalas and subsequent rulers including the kempegowdas of Bangalore. One can climb further on the hill and there is kempegowda's hazara and an image of Kumbhi Basava.Below the hill there is a shiva temple called Shanteshwara.

Nandi Hills
Nandi Hills: On Bangalore/Hyderbad Road take a left turn 5 Kms after Devabahalli. A popular Hill resort. This was the place where Tipu and assorted royalty retired to, when they sought to escape the din of the battle. The Yoganandeswara Temple on top of the hill was built by the Cholas, but the charming Devi shrine was a Vijayanagar addition.

Magadi: It is 41 kms from Bangalore. Kempegowda was forced to leave Bangalore in 1638 and make Magadi his headquaters where his family built the fort and Rameshwara temple. There is also the Someshwara temple. It has fading wall paintings. Tirumale is a hill near the town where there is a vast Ranganatha Temple, but actually the deity being worshipped is Srinivasa.

Other Places of Interest in Bangalore
Aquarium, Bal Bhavan, Nehru Planetarium, Indira Gandhi Musical dancing fountain, Karnataka folk Museum, St. Mark's cathedral, Jami Masjid etc. are worth seeing.
